It’s starting to sink in. I finally have time to do nothing. I can still remember Sunday morning - the last Sunday morning - standing on the wet street of Taft Avenue. Waiting in line at 6:00AM, amidst the thousands of strangers around me. We were strangers, but all similarly situated.
The wind was cold. The rain generously gave us enough time to get inside La Salle before it started pouring again. "Good sign," I thought to myself. I had to stay conscious of my surroundings, how i felt that very moment, the people staring at the Bar Examinees as we marched towards the battle. The last leg of the battle. I wanted to remember it. To capture it. Holding my Blue Tips with one hand and a bottle of green tea with another, I breathed long and deep. It’s good that a lot of us have endured the experience. I never, ever want to go through the whole process again.
The Bar Season has opened my eyes to a lot of my realities: that there is a considerable amount of people behind me, all of whom are genuinely concerned and willing to chip in to make my journey a lot less of a burden. People who are under no obligation whatsoever to run, shout, and cheer for me did run, shout and cheer for me and I felt so blessed.
My parental units: MAWI & MASHDADPOTATO [really, that's what I call them] showed incredible gestures of love during the whole six months and four weeks. And the whole month of September, all four Sundays, they stayed outside La Salle from 6:00 AM to 5:00PM waiting for me to finish. I can’t describe how grateful I am to have such wonderful parents. They’re the best.
My PoopieMonsturr Janjan, his girlfriend Gem, and Viola and Rain: I can’t ask for a better group of people to watch over me the whole month. My brother has gone out of his way thousands of times for me. He read the codals out loud for me when my eyes failed me at 2:00 AM. He stayed beside me to pat my head or massage my hand when I couldn’t sleep. Even to the smallest and unimportant demands, he never said no. He’s the best thing in my existence. And the Bar just proved to me how far he is willing to go for his Tewi [that's me]. I consider him and his friends my angels [puede rin slaves hahaha].
Joana Chua never failed to deliver my 4AM pancake breakfasts and coffee all four Sundays. Now that’s what I call true friendship! Even if we don’t belong to the same Law School anymore, she still managed to show me how strong our friendship is.
Tintin Dy, my troubleshooter. My lifesaver. When things go terribly wrong, she always finds a way to correct it. When my tips get lost, she runs to make copies for me. When I’m hungry but too busy reading, she hand-feeds me. She opens water bottles for me, puts sugar in my coffee ans stirs it, too. She reads notes for me when I’m too tired to read them myself, and gets stressed for me -just so I won’t get stressed at the moment. All four Sundays, she ran for me.
Glenn Albano, Rosa Mendoza, Randee Vega: my default persons. My shock absorbers. My wacky companions. They love me and they let it show. All throughout the duration of our friendship, they have always been consistent in making me feel secure that I will never be let down, that I will get picked up when I do fall down, and that I will never be judged. Thank you for the friendship. Thank you for showering me with my favorite things: Cadbury Black Forest, the Chef Tony’s Pesto Popcorn, Krispy Kreme, Go Nuts donuts and cupcakes. And Rosa, Thanks for the mysterious cotton candy which turns into stone when ignored overnight.
My Fabulous Housemates: Boobee, Dumdum, and Gme. They can dance. They can jive…having the time of their lives. Hahaha. They keep me sane [or insane...in a positive way]. Ok, I take it back. Your lifelong dream is not to go to Calatagan. Hahaha. Thank you for the preweek magic sing moments, for the loudness, for the laughter, and a little of the tears. We are great together. [Turn around...every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you never come around...ooooh we're halfway there...ooooh! Living on a prayer. Take my hand and we'll make it I swear. ooooh! Living on a prayer!]
Thea Magpantay, my pet. Hahaha. Our quasi-housemate. She helped me control my weird temper. She helped me and Ruby appreciate the good things we have. She’s psycho…but in a positive way. Hahaha. She’s a good person, deserving of the best. I love her. My family loves her.
Chuck de Guzman, Alex the "Jokebox" Rivera, Voltaire Uy. My steady companions. All throughout the Bar review, they kept me "steady". Or at least they tried. Hahaha. They deserve credit for putting up with me all these years. I would not have endured the emotional burden had they not been my companions. They have remained loyal all these years. My Law School life would not be as happy had they not been the biggest part of it.
Tin, Wyanet, Jew, Paul, Mike, Pau, and Adan. They took me in and considered me as a friend despite my weird detachment and my cranky moods. I appreciate the effort and the sincerity. You guys are the best friends I found in 4D.
Gene Lee. Efficient. Moody, but efficient. Hahaha. Thank you for all the help and support. Great job.
Yves Gonzales. For always listening, and yakking, and whining, and just being yourself. Hahaha.
MJ Bayang. My stressball during the review. Thank you for all the encouragement and kindness. Everything will all come back to you.
Paolo Rodriguez. For staying beside me. For highlighting my tips. For eating my donuts. For always making sure I was ok. And for appropriating my breakfast stubs. Hahaha.
ATENEO CENTRAL BAR OPS: Your efforts are of enormous importance to the barristers. Thank you for the voluntary support and service you have rendered. Jacqui, Leo, etc. Great job. I am personally grateful. Acads people, Sunday Ops, Hotel Ops…Thank you guys. Eunice, Anna, Tin Plata, Patty, Joony, etc. Thank you.
The Aquila Legis Fraternity: I exressly declare my gratitude for everything you guys have done for me for the whole stretch of the season. To everyone who has ran errands for me, to those who have delivered my tips in the mornings and afternoons, to those who have bought food for me, zeroxed reviewers for me, applauded for me as I walked away from La Salle, cheered for me as I stood in line [especially Ari and Don], embraced me when I needed it, and of course, to those who handed me the cold freakin’ beer after Legal Ethics was through. Thank you.
Macky Estepa. For the most memorable Salubong, the tightest embrace in my whole life, and the beer you poured on my head- which, by the way, you were too drunk to recall. Hassle! Anyway, you’re still my favorite brod.
Salsa. You are my family in Law School. You did me proud. Thank you for the Sendoff. It was my honor to have been your leader. You will go a long way. Thank you for the memories. We shall drink more beer!!!
Dianna Baysac, Gail Maderazo, and Timmy Alonzo. My Spiritual companions. When I feel weak, they reinforce my Faith. I need not fear for He shall Save me. Thank you.
Starbucks Co-Nerds: You guys kept me going. For the daily dose of laughter and yosi and coffee shared and and for all the memories…Thank you!
Starbucks Barristas a.k.a. TEAM ROCKWELL: For making the best iceshaken doubleshot in the whole wide world! Thank you for making me feel at home at Starbucks Rockwell Drive! MY BEST DAYS WERE SPENT IN STARBUCKS, MY HAPPIEST MEMORIES CONSIST OF A STARBUCKS CUP IN HAND.

9:51AM - Here I am, back in Starbucks, staring into space again as I sip my grande-non-fat-latte. My mind’s drifting with the scent of caffeine as Anne Lim surfs the net on her laptop grinning and “kiliging” endlessly. Waiting for nine minutes to fly by before I finally start reading my last subject for the review, I started typing this on my dopod. Anne started laughing at this strange guy who emailed her some weird stuff. Haha. Mabenta sha sa ‘Tate! :p
Oh well. My nine minutes are up. See you after the Bar!

LET IT GO
"When people can walk away from you: let them walk. I don’t want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone. When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can’t make them stay. Let them go. And it doesn’t mean that they are a bad person it just means that their part in the story is already over. And you’ve got to know when people’s part in your story is over so that you don’t keep trying to raise the dead. You’ve got to know when it’s dead. You’ve got to know when it’s over. Let me tell you something. I’ve got the gift of good- bye. It’s the tenth spiritual gift, I believe in good- bye. It’s not that I’m hateful, it’s that I’m faithful, and I know whatever God means for me to have, He’ll give it to me. Stop begging people to stay. Let them go!! If you are holding on to something that doesn’t belong to you and was never intended for your life, then you need to…LET IT GO!!! If you are holding on to past hurts and pains …LET IT GO!!! If someone can’t treat you right, love you back, and see your worth …LET IT GO!!! If someone has angered you … LET IT GO!!! If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge…LET IT GO!!! If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship….LET IT GO!!! Let the past be the past. Forget the former things. GOD is doing a new thing !!! LET IT GO!!! Think about it, and then LET IT GO!!!"
NOTE: it’s a repost. i found it in perps’ blog.
It caught my attention while browsing her site and I hjust had to react. I love letting go. i’ve mastered the art of it, i suppose. the best way to do it is smiling while you’re at it. after that, indulge in something that can make you feel what no one else can feel for you - like the wind on your skin, the sand between you toes, the sunshine on your face, or the feeling of getting on a plane to davao due to a spur of the moment idea. it’s crazy but it works. and the process is complete. letting go and moving on.
Some time in 2004, back when i had a hard time letting go, i asked my dad while he was watching late night tv (we’re both insomniacs), "dad, dapat ba ‘kong magalit kung hindi na ko love nung tao?" He must have felt that his only daughter was in pain. I couldn’t face him with the tears streaming down my face so I buried my head under his pillows and crawled inside his embrace. The most powerful and probably the most prctical advice he gave me was this, "Anak, hindi ka dapat magalit kung di ka na n’ya mahal. Kung hindi ka na mahal nung tao, pabayaan mo na s’ya. Hindi mo mapipilit ang tao na mahalin ka." And that, my friends, is the beginning of my version of learning and letting go.
Compared to my mom’s professional and scholastic credentials, my dad’s way behind the limelight. But when it comes to life and how the real world works, I think my dad’s more experienced. My dad’s a superhero, he saves me from a lot of potential heartaches, those that I usually get myself into. I’m thankful for my dad’s wacky one-liners, his unbelievably distorted (i.e. "barok") diction, his incredible love for me and my brother, and his undying devotion to my mom. He’s always had a positive outlook in life. Ever since I was a child he taught me how to be forgiving and patient, to love unconditionally, to laugh uncontrollably, to be honest and sincere, to cry when you feel like it, and to let go when it’s time to do so.
Now, when people walk away from me (or betray my trust), I let them walk. My destiny is NEVER tied to anybody that left (or betrayed me — but that’s another issue). But when they happen to pass by, I greet them with a smile. Happy to have held on once and let go after. Happier to be without them now. Happiest to have found peace with whom I have.

I have friends and a few of them ‘minorities’ who are in this kind of relationship right now and though I’d hate to be the one bursting their bubble… this might just make all the difference in everyone’s world.
::
Oh, and before I forget.. this is for YOU too.
::
This kind of "relationship" can happen at different stages for different reasons. It can happen after a break-up. You still love each other, and you want to be with each other but you broke up for a reason. And for reasons that you alone know, ayaw niyo na muna magkabalikan. It can also happen before a relationship, iyong pareho kayong nakikiramdam.
This pseudo-relationship stage, for a time, can be fun.
Iba’t ibang dahilan. Pwedeng for fun lang. Pwedeng "buti na iyan kesa wala" or pwede na iyang "PANAKIP BUTAS". Meaning, habang wala pa yong the real thing, doon muna sa kunwa-kunwarian.
For those who are not in a serious relationship, they would think that pseudo-relationship is better than no relationship at all. It would be fun, if all you are after for is that "kilig" feeling. Iyong merong laging kasama. Habang wala pa ang the real thing, pwede na itong pagtiyagaan.
But then you learn that although it’s only a pseudo-relationship, the emotions are real. And usually, in this kind of set up, ang babae lagi ang lugi.
Una, you can’t ask him to commit. Since it’s not really a relationship, you can’t demand commitment from your partner. Ano ba kayo? May K ka nga ba magpasundo ng hatinggabi? You will always be uncertain about your role in his life. You can’t expect him to be always there with you. And if you feel jealous of the other girls, you just have to keep it to yourself. Ano ka ba niya para magselos?
Pangalawa, what if you fall deeply in love with him? You can’t be sure if he feels the same way. Baka nag-a-assume ka lang na mahal ka rin niya. Even if you are dying to tell him you love him, you can’t. Because you’re not sure if he’ll like it. Baka mapahiya ka lang. This stage will always make you wonder where you are in the relationship. Or if there is a relationship at all.
Pangatlo, what if you become attached too much? What if you have invested all your emotions and this man hasn’t? What if you remain faithful to him, not entertaining other guys, only to find out that he is seeing other girls?
Isa pang downside ng pseudo-relationships, it is fleeting. When a disagreement sets in, or when one of you gets cold, then that would be the end of it. Unlike in a serious relationship, hindi mo alam kung saan ka lulugar sa isang pseudo-relationship. Wala kang pinanghahawakan. Kasi sa pseudo-relationship, there is no "us." Meron lang "you and me," hindi "us."
Kaso, hindi eh. Real pain.
::
::
And usually, kahit tapos na ang pseudo-relationship, hindi mo maiwasan umasang one day, may karugtong pa rin iyun. And you will be miserable, hoping to bring back what you used to have, only to find out eventually that the guy is in ANOTHER pseudo-relationship with somebody else.
Ang hirap, ano? You agreed to this kind of set up for fun and then you’d end up hurting yourself in the process.
Pero pwede naman maiwasan ang pain eh. Pwede naman na hindi mo muna isipin ang future and just enjoy the feeling, without thinking of the consequences.
But if you are certain that you are going to hurt yourself in the process, kailangan mo mamili. You can be happy and live the moment without worrying what would happen next. Or you can stop settling with pseudo-relationships and wait for the real thing.
Ang bottom line lang naman, kung magpapasaya sa iyo, gawin mo. Ihanda mo lang ang sarili mo sa consequence. Dahil ang "parang kayo pero hindi" stage ay bihirang nagiging totoo. Usually, hanggang doon lang siya … almost, but not quite.

Even if most of the time within my five-day "rest period" in Pampanga was boring, I found comfort knowing that despite our respective preoccupations, The Family remains happy [read as "crazy, zany, loud, and sort of autistic"] and whole.
I’m the luckiest for having such a wonderful gift. Kahit sobrang lakas nila mang-asar, okay lang. Pag wala nang strangers na mapag-tripan ang magulang ko, ako naman ang hihiritan!
I also took advantage of the so-called vacation to bond with my favorite niece, Joy.
Now she’s all grown up! She’s going to college this year!
It’s good that I get to spend time with my parents and my brother more often now. My dad’s all mushy and stuff over me growing up. But I still am stuck like glue to him. Yes, I still baby-talk. Hahaha.
Today, I also got to spend time with my Fernando cousins and the titos and lolas…It’s Lola Ima’s 82nd birthday and we held the party in La Hacienda Fernando! Suddenly, it turned into a home for the aged! Hahaha. My lola’s hundred-year-old friends and most of the Fernandos gathered and celebrated with enormous servings of food!!! Burp! Great way to celebrate Easter, too!
Jef came late. He texted at about 6 in the evening. He was stuck in the intersection, on his way back to Manila. So I picked him up in Caltex Guagua, made him sleep over so we can head back to Manila together.
Tomorrow, I’m off to Makati again. Eunice just texted me: "Aral kb tmrw? Bka tmambay dn ako starbs tmrw afternun e."
Malamang Starbucks ako! Haller!!! 6 days na kong hindi nagkakapeeee!!! Potaaah!

It’s good that you never ask why.
Keep it up.
Things are much easier this way.

No. Not porn, sicko.
It’s been two days since I last held a book. I’m experiencing major withdrawal symptoms! It’s a struggle to stay away from Starbucks! I’m still a crazy-ass nerd. Got a problem with that?
All puffy-eyed and groggy, I woke up at 1:32 in the afternoon. First thing I did was charge my cellphone. I was too tired to charge it when I got home. As I said in my previous blog, I got home at 5:00 in the morning from my first trip to Government. Rosa’s message came in, she was asking what time we were gonna meet up. I replied and proceeded to the kitchen. Oh, I had to wash my face and brush my teeth first.
Tonight, I’m supposed to cook dinner for a couple of friends. But plans changed and now I’m cooking for 8 people! Since I didn’t get to marinade the chicken and the pork last night, I had to get moving.
Here’s the plan: Marinade the chicken; Slice up and dice up whatever needs to be sliced and diced; Stir-fry the pork. Everything has to be finished before 4:00 because by that time, I had to go get into the shower so I can hear Mass at 5:00 in Ateneo. It’s Palm Sunday Mass in anticipated time.
I realized that the food I prepared might not be enough for the guests considering matakaw talaga si Rosa! [hahaha] So I went to Rustan’s to get extra ingredients. In short, I got through dinner. Roj, Pao, and Andrei had to run back to studying because they have exams til Wednesday. The lawyers stayed to savor a bum’s life on our couch, inches away from the seriously small television. It’s DVD night!
Since I couldn’t watch Cooking Master Boy tonight, I joined them in the couch to watch Borat. Glenn, as usual, spent half of the night sleeping in my room. Rosa and I stayed despite the constant squinting — since the TV’s tiny, the subtitles are microscopic, consequently. Date Movie followed and food trip ensued. Pigging out with them has always been my favorite part of the friendship. I reheated the chicken-thing which Roj likes to call "d janinihaw special" although I am lost as to why he came up with it since it’s not even grilled. By this time, Glenn has already awaken.
Vega, on the other hand, is still out doing some lawyering. By this, we mean "free booze." Yes, his gaybar-owner client requires him to stay inside the club so oversee it. What’s great about it is that we get to be the beneficiaries [but the homophobic boy would not avail of it]. He said he’d follow. But since Glenn and Rosa are both sleepy already, they went home na. Told Vega.
I’m still in front of the TV, Van Wilder’s playing on DVD. My housemates are leaving at 4:00AM to pursue their lifelong dream: mag-housemates’ outing sa Calatagan! Since I’m not going, Thea’s my proxy. Hahaha. And they actually bought new bikinis for this trip!
Gme and Thea are still out. It’s already 2:37AM. They checked out that party in Embassy. Here’s the catch: you have to be in a bikini. Otherwise, you won’t be allowed inside. Yes, the two actually ARE wearing bikini tops and shorts. I convinced Gme to wear my orange bikini top so she can wear her shrimp-printed shorts. Cute pair. Thea’s sporting her new string bikini with her fab abs. I hope they’re enjoying.
I wonder what tomorrow will bring. It’s going to be super quiet the whole day. All of them will be in Batangas. Hmmmm. What to do? What to do?
Bahala na!

I just got home. It’s 5:00 AM and I’m blogging. Wow.
Congratulate me for finally, finally, finally having taken the last finals of my life [I hope!] yesterday. Today, I tried my best to break away from routine. But, alas! Starbucks will always be my "home sweet home". But of course, I didn’t dare pick up any book. It was so hard to fight the urge. But I have succeeded - one whole day without looking at any provision of law or jurisprudence!
I woke up at 8:00 in the morning [that was yesterday na], and thought to myself, "Pakshet, anung gagawin ko?"
I have nothing to study. I’m supposed to be taking a break. But most of my friends are still taking their finals. Good thing Roj lent me some of his DVD’s. Now I’m addicted to Cooking Master Boy. I spent the whole morning watching it. But I had to stop at Episode 10 to give way to shower and lunch. also, I had to make sure I enroll myself for the Bar Review today and then do some groceries and hear mass.
Bar Review, check.
Clearance, check.
Groceries, check.
Mass, check.
The plan was to meet up with the lawyers after dinner to celebrate Glenn’s birthday. It was on Thursday. Rosa and the boyfriend came first. We had dinner in Gram’s Diner because good Earth was jam-packed. Hassle! I was bugging my freshmen and sophomore friends in Starbucks because I was the only one who’s done with finals.
"Sis, may surprise ako kay Glenn…actually para din sa inyo," Randee told me when I called him up.
"And tagal mo naman, brother! Anu ba yan?" I nagged.
"Punta tayo sa Government! Client ko yun eh. Matagal na gusto ni Glenn makita yun," he explained.
"Eh, diba gay bar yun?" I was curious.
"Oo, pero kailangan ko pumunta eh. Client kasi."
"Ok."
So after we consumed around three bucket of beer in Grams, we went to Government. We had the VIP lounge to ourselves. At first I was quite shocked to see an entire club filled with guys dancing around each other, hugging each other, kissing each other. I realized they didn’t care.
I found the bed-cum-couch comfortable and tried to watch the people from afar. It was a great experience. To see something you don’t see out in the open. It was fun to be somehow part of the whole mingling of shadows.
And, oh. I met a lawyer. Randee’s friend. He also hung out with us in Government. It seemed like he goes there often with Randee to watch over the club, just in case some policemen would go in and harrass the people inside. Anyway, I couldn’t quite figure out if he’s gay or straight so I came up to him, curiously poked him a few times on the shoulder and uttered, "I have a question!"
"What?"
"Are you gay?" The words casually poured out of my big mouth.
"No."
"Great." I pointed at Thea, "She’s single."
Thea goes, "You’re single, too."
I left them. They spent the whole night dancing with each other. It was wild. I stayed in my spot. I didn’t feel like dancing the night away. I’d rather watch them do their thing. But I did get up a few times just to I won’t look like I was bored.
I also met a gay guy, Walter. He owns a club in Kalayaan. He said he’ll give me a dicount, "buy one take one" or 50% off. He asked for my number. And he resumed dancing with Thea. She was kind of the life of the VIP area. Hahaha. Ooh! She even danced in the cage!!! I’ll try to upload the pictures soon! Hahaha. Chummies na rin kami nung bouncer!
Now, it’s 6:00. I have to sleep now. I plan to cook dinner for some friends after the mass. Ruby is still studying. I’ll leave her after I end this.
Basically, I’m proud to say that this is another addition to my list of First Times. First time ko makakita ng live man-to-man action!!! Hahaha. Asteeg! I’m definitely coming back! Libre beer eh!
Tomorrow, I just might consider crashing the MOTHER WEARS PRADA party. Hmmm. Free beer!!! Woohoo!!!
